Rickey Holden - interview & three dances
This item starts with an interview conducted by Mildred Buhler with Rickey Holden and his wife, Marti, in San Antonio, Texas. At that time, Holden was a Square Dance Consultant with the San Antonio Recreation Department. (He notes that the year before, his title was Square Dance Specialist.) Holden describes the program of square dancing that has been created in Texas. He describes how the square dance program-- Hoffman Hayride-- was established on WOAI-TV in January, 1949, using the show as a way to reach new dancers.
Additional biographical information about Holden can be found here, and he is one of the subjects of an 2004 interview with Bob Brundage, part of the Brundage collection at the Square Dance Foundation of New England.
We are not certain of the exact date of the Buhler interview but it is around 1950. The three additional audio files here are samples of Holden calling patter squares.
Subjects: Modern square dance - general, Transitional/Western 1940s
