Sight Calling - Les Gotcher
Les Gotcher's detailed description offer a look into how he created various sight-calling techniques. He includes a section early on that describes the process he went through to create this method. Subsequent sections discuss equivalents and Sequence ("Not enough can be said, or written about Sequence. Sequence determines everything that is going on out there on the floor. You should know at all times, or at least be able to take a look (sight call) and see whether they are IN or OUT of Sequence. This will determine what you can follow up with.")
Gotcher looks at specific calls (Trade By, Scoot Back) and how they affect the square. He concludes with a section on styling: "Keep in mind that styling can be overdone. W e are right on the brink of perfection and when we carry it that far we are asking the dancer to be as smooth as ballet dancers. This would be perfection and although we would like that we must remember that we are taking a lot of fun out of it, at least, for some folks we are. The most important thing to the caller is to see that the dancers are having fun."
