The Visible Anthem
This 1972 documentary, half an hour in length, describes the work of the Lloyd Shaw Foundation. It includes footage of Dorothy Shaw speaking to participants at a gathering of the Lloyd Shaw Fellowship, and describes the work of Lloyd Shaw and his Cheyenne Mountain Dancers in promoting dance. The embedded video is from a posting on YouTube. The film is also available on the Internet Archive, where it can be viewed or downloaded.
Note: Some of the history section is inaccurate, such as the notion that the caller is a unique creation of the settlers who traveled west. Scholarship in subsequent years has demonstrated that calling has roots going back centuries, with African-American musicians frequently filling that role in colonial and 19th century America.
