Too Hot Mamas - Chapel of Love Singing Square
This video is an excerpt of the Singing Square dance Chapel of Love. Singing squares use altered lyrics of popular songs to insert dance choreography instruction into the song. Based on the song, ”Chapel of Love,” written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich, and Phil Spector, and popularized by the Dixie Cups in 1964, these dance lyrics were written by Too Hot Mamas, based on the classic square dance choreography, Texas Star. Performed by Too Hot Mamas (Janine Smith and Susan Taylor) who were joined on vocals by Laura Light, and the Avant Gardeners. Captured at the (formerly) annual ButterBall daylong dance in 2009.
Too Hot Mamas - Janine Smith and Susan Taylor - are a duo of dance callers (community dance leaders, choreographers, instructors, and callers/prompters in the traditional folk social dance world). We work to bring joy, connection, coordination, and occasional silliness to folks in participatory dance communities everywhere.
