One Night Stand - Don Armstrong
This handout by caller Don Armstrong explains his approach to one night stands. In addition to programs for adults, he also discusses programs for children and for teens. The handout also discusses programs for "Dancers – regular open dance."
===
The programming objective in the open dance, as in all dances, is to attempt to please the large majority of those in attendance the large majority of the time. This does not necessarily mean that each individual dance or portion of the program must reach each person comprising the overwhelming majority. Instead it means that the total result of all portions of the program or all dances of the program should leave this majori with a feeling of pleasure, fellowship and satisfaction. ...
No program deserves even that name if it should be comprised of squares and intermissions. The squares are only the ''meat'', the couple dances (round or folk), mixers, and contras provide the "vegetables'' and ''salad". The ''dessert'' is the atmosphere of friendliness, fellowship and fun that is created by the rest and by the spirit and attitude of the caller. ALL TOGETHER, the program achieves its purpose. Omit some, and the program shows it.
