Waltz Quadrilles
This detailed booklet describes waltz quadrilles, a style of dance enjoyed by dancers in this Oklahoma City group. The author are careful to draw a distinction with traditional dances, and predict that this form (combining square and round dancing) will become popular:
---
How many of us recall the old-time waltz quadrilles, the one that went:
"First couple down center, and there you divide
The lady goes right, gent the other aide
Honor your partner, and don't be afraid
To take the corner lady and waltz promenade"?
Well quietly and insistently, there has been a trend towards waltz quadrilles lately, not the old-time kind but a new and more modern type of waltz quadrille that dancers are beginning to accept and enjoy. Several record firms have recently released music and instructions for these waltz quadrilles and dancers are buying and trying them. After all, a waltz quadrille is merely round dancing in a square formation, or square dancing to waltz music, so it appeals to both square and round dancers.
[snip]
There is a deep-down satisfaction in dancing waltz quadrilles that sets them aside as being s omething "special" in the dancing realm. It is teamwork and joy-sharing in a simple, easy-to-learn way, and it's a safe forecast that these lovely dances will eoon find a prominent place on dance programs throughout the nation.
