Cowboy Dance Tunes – excerpt
This was first published as a separate booklet in 1940 to accompany Lloyd Shaw's Cowboy Dances, which appeared in 1939. Shaw provides an introduction.
Jim Saxe notes, "The same tune collection, foreword and all, appears starting on page 373 of the 4th (April, 1941) and subsequent printings of Cowboy Dances. The 7th (August, 1945) and subsequent printings also include listings of recorded music starting on page 395. I haven't checked line by line, but I think these are identical in printings 7-10. A different version of the record list appears starting with the 11th printing (May, 1949) and, I think, remains unrevised thereafter. All printings of the book include (on pages 34-35) lists of favorite tunes that Shaw collected from four of his fiddler friends."
