"I'll Swing Yours, You Swing Mine" - A Tribute to Rufus Fisher's Orchestra and Wilson's Westernaires
This is a recorded Zoom talk about two dance bands in the Chateauguay Valley, an English-speaking region of Quebec that has not been well documented previously.
This program, hosted by Glenn Patterson, pays tribute to two of the Chateauguay Valley's most beloved dance orchestras: Rufus Fisher's Orchestra from the Hemmingford (Barrington) area and Wilson's Westernaires led by Ellis Wilson from the 1st Concession near Herdman (Brooklet). The program (1 hour 45 minutes in all) includes archival recordings going back to the 1950s, old photographs, interviews and stories with family and friends, and live recordings.
(We've categorized this under Ottawa Valley, a better-known region for music and dance, because the music and dances are more similar than those of francophone Quebec.)
