Paddock Parade - Don Armstrong
Creator: Kentucky Dance Foundation, David and Linda Lewis (November, 1996)
Recorded at the York Contra Holiday, November, 1996; Don Armstrong, caller. His instructions for the dance can be found here. (If that website is unavailable, they are also reprinted below.)
From a set of videos issued by Kentucky Dance Foundation, c/o Folk Dancer Record Center, 6290 Olin Road, Brandenburg, Kentucky 40108, and used with permission. The music is Wilshire Tempest (or Wiltshire Tempest), recorded by the Cecil Sharp Folk Dance Band. Armstrong's instructions date the dance to "circa 1700" but we cannot locate a primary source for the dance, this date is unsubstantiated, and (in the opinion of the SDHP editors) highly unlikely.
The dance, a double quadrille, includes a grand square figure for all eight couples. In this version, as couples back out of the center they stay side by side with their partner; other dances with a grand square for eight couples sometimes have the dancers staying in columns as they back out.

Square dance enthusiasts will note Bob Osgood (with the eyepatch) dancing in the set.
