Phil Jamison: "Wild Hog in the Woods is one of four recordings made by Lonesome Luke & His Farm Hands in 1931 that includes dance calls. It has been widely available to old-time musicians since the 1970s, thanks to its inclusion on an LP reissue.
"The fiddler, Luke Decker (1900-1950) was from Grayson County, in central Kentucky, but the band was based in Louisville. I don't know anything about the caller, Lee Day. He calls some great four-couple square, with a Southern Do-Si-Do (hand-turning) figure as a sub-chorus."
Another recording from that session is available online:
Dogs in the Ash Can
and a recording of the Beaver Valley Breakdown can be heard here.
Subjects: Southern / Appalachian / Four-couple squares
