Grandfather's Clock / Chains Across - Dudley Laufman
Dudley Laufman calls as part of the "Square Dance" Retrospective session at the annual Ralph Page Dance Legacy Weekend in Durham, NH. The basic figure is shown below, but you'll see the dancers starting to anticipate the calls and getting delightfully mixed up as Dudley throws in some unexpected directions. The musicians are Old New England (Bob McQuillen piano; Jane Orzechowski, fiddle; and Deanna Stiles, flute). The tune is Grandfather's Clock, written by Henry Clay Work in 1876.

Now the head two couples out to the right with a right-hand star
And you circle once around (that is, turn the star) to your place
Now the head two ladies chain, side ladies chain
And you chain the ladies right back home again
Swing your partners everyone
And you all promenade
Now the head two couples make a right-hand star
Circle once around to place
Head ladies chain, side ladies chain
And you chain them home
Swing your partners everyone
And you all promenade
Now the head two couples out to the left with a left-hand star
And you circle once around to your place
Now the head two ladies chain, side ladies chain
And you chain the ladies right back home again
Swing your partners everyone
And you all promenade
