Square dancing at Augusta Heritage Festival - 1994
An evening dance at the Augusta Workshops in Elkins, West Virginia on July 15, 1994. Larry Edelman calls the figures to the music of the New Dixie Entertainers: Mike Bryant, Marcia Bryant, Brett Riggs, Pan Riggs, Morgan Simmons, and Tim Rogers.
The scatter mixer shown at the start of this clip is one that Larry created using the Harlem Rosette figure as a foundation. It's followed by a contra. Next (at 3:35) comes a square Larry thinks he learned from Pittsburgh caller Dolores Heagy. The square at 4:30 is Larry's adaptation Doc Heimbach's Two Faced Line, that appeared in the Sets in Order Yearbook with a break that, in Larry's words, "evolved from a simpler figure from the 50s." The video concludes with footage of free-form flatfooting by the dancers.
Subjects: Southern / Appalachian / Big sets, Southern / Appalachian / Four-couple squares
