Gym Classes in Square Dancing
Creator: Claude S. Chadwick (January 1942)
This article describes the author's experiences teaching square dancing at Vanderbilt University. In addition to describing how the program developed, Prof. Chadwick concludes on an uplifting note: "Admittedly universities train young men and women for positions of leadership in business, in education and in the professions. It is logical that they should train leaders also for social and recreational activities. While we have probably not set a precedent by inaugurating classes in square dancing as a part of the university curriculum, we have certainly seen how social leaders can be trained on the square dance floor."
