Blue Tail Fly / Jimmy Crack Corn - singing square
Bill Litchman calls the figures for this singing square, presented in 1991 at a dance workshop in Belgium. Bill comments: "I used the figure called by Melton Lutrell on the Square L recording (“Bluetail Fly” by the Rhythm Outlaws of Texas, SL-102A). I used it because of the two tempos and the interesting figure. I've called that figure without using the Bluetail Fly music also and it is still fun to do (even without the tempo change)."
The basic figure here is the same as in The Missing Link, a square dance created by caller Frank Tyrell. It's built on the southern Appalachian figure, Lady Round the Lady and the Gent Follow, but instead of immediately going into Gent Around the Lady the two ladies turn once in the center before following their partner. It's also closely related to the version of Blue Tail Fly credited to Dave Clavner of Los Angeles and published in the first Sets in Order 5-Year Yearbook. (You'll find that on p. 20 of this link.)
Belgian caller and choreographer Philippe Callens is the dancer on the left in the white shirt.
