Progressive Squares - Jerry Helt
Creator: Jerry Helt (April, 1998)
This half hour recording comes from a 1998 CALLERLAB session led by Jerry Helt, widely known for his use of progressive squares. (We appreciate CALLERLAB giving permission to share the material here. This was recorded at the 25th annual meeting of CALLERLAB.) Helt describes the fundamentals of this method of moving dancers from one square to another. After a lively presentation—Helt is directing his talk to fellow callers—he starts the music and his calls. (Note: By the time of this recording, callers were using "California twirl" instead of the earlier "Frontier whirl" call found in the 1961 Sets in Order article.)
