Square Dance - live recordings

In cooperation with the Square Dance Foundation of New England, SDHP has created a page on the Internet Archive with live recordings of some 300 evenings of modern square dancing. Although most files are from actual dances, there are also a few recordings from callers' clinics or workshops. Many of the tapes have a short introduction by Jim Mayo, explaining the background or source of the particular recording.
The reel-to-reel tapes were part of the collection of the Square Dance Foundation of New England and were digitized into mp3 format to save on bandwidth. Most of the files come from the 1950s through the 1980s. The collection includes well-known New England callers as well as many others from elsewhere in the U.S., comprising a strong collection of the traveling callers from the first 50 years of MWSD.
Gardner Patton has been developing an index to the recordings. There is an overview index by name of caller, but each item on that list can be expanded to a listing of individual dances. As of November 2020, 43 of the tapes are indexed, and anyone interested in assisting with this project could get in touch with Gardner.
Among the callers represented are:
Don Armstrong
Pancho Baird
Charlie Baldwin
