Four Leaf Clover - Larry Edelman
Larry writes: "This rendition of Four-Leaf Clover was recorded on August 24, 1985. I called it to a demonstration square (or maybe two) during a live hour-long broadcast of Seattle’s long-running weekly radio show called, “Sandy Bradley’s Potluck.” The show aired live on KUOW every Saturday morning from Murphy’s Pub and later Seattle's Museum of History and Industry (The Canote Twins documentary has a segment devoted to the radio show). That week, the Canotes and I were on staff teaching at Centrum’s Folk Dance and Music Week in Pt. Townsend. The Canotes were Sandy’s sidekicks/partners on the show, so Sandy decided to broadcast the show outdoors from downtown Pt. Townsend. The show included music from a variety of musicians who were on staff at Folk Dance and Music Week. In addition, I called that square and played mandolin, Greg Canote played fiddle, Jere Canote played guitar, and Sandy Bradley played keyboard. I taught Greg and Jere the chorus so they could sing along, inspired by how Joe Lewis, one of my favorite callers, would sometimes have the band join in singing the choruses of his singing calls. Later in the show, Sandy called a dance as well. I think my voice was a bit higher those 40 years ago, and in addition the tape was probably sped up a bit." Larry credits this version to Ed Gilmore.
