Trail of the Lonesome Pine - Tod Whittemore
Tod Whittemore is the caller; music is provided by Bob McQuillen, piano; Randy Miller, fiddle, and Peter Siegel, mandolin. This was part of a dance workshop on singing squares, recorded on January 15, 2011, at the 24th annual Ralph Page Dance Legacy Weekend in Durham, NH.
Named in honor of the great New England caller of contra and square dances, the RPDLW celebrates the traditions of New England style dancing, including dances and music that are centuries old and those that have been composed more recently. More information about the weekend can be found here.
Caller Don Armstrong took the figures from Ralph Page's dance "Gents and Corners" and set them to this tune, which he recorded on the Windsor label. Also available on this website is a live recording of Don and Marie Armstrong calling the dance. You can watch a video of Tony Parkes calling Gents and Corners or watch the singing square as called by Bill Litchman. or by Rich and Lynn Sbardella.
