10th National Square Dance Convention - Detroit, 1961
Two television stories about the 10th Annual National Square Dance Convention, Cobo Hall, Detroit, recorded June 30, 1961. The reporter in both programs is Shelby Newhouse.
The first is a half-hour broadcast, probably aired on local television. The second is shorter, and was aired nationally as part of the Today show, where host Edwin Newman gives less-than-enthusiastic comments before and after.
In addition to the videos, this item includes the convention program. Dorothy Shaw, "Grand and Gracious First Lady of Square Dancing," was the Honorary Hostess of the event. Comments below about the exhibition groups come from that program, p. 31 of the booklet (p. 17 of the PDF).
Index codes are given for the long program if you want to skip to a specific section.
