Pageant of American Square Dance History, 1959
Creator: Dorothy Shaw (1959)
This lengthy presentation of square dance history was presented at the Eighth National Square Dance Convention in Denver, 1959. Researched and organized by Dorothy Shaw after Lloyd Shaw's death in 1958, the pageant presented two hours of dance, from two English country dances (first edition Playford, 1651) up to Joe Lewis calling Alabama Jubilee. This is the script prepared by Mrs. Shaw to be read by narrator (and famed animation artist and square dance enthusiast) Chuck Jones at the event.
The full program booklet from the 1959 NSDC is available at the Internet Archive.
Also included here-- see Additional Files-- is a letter from Dorothy Shaw to Mary Jo Brearley (Bradford) in which she mentions getting ready for the upcoming pageant.
