Dancing Among the Stars
In Chapter 6 of his autobiography, Dancing Among the Stars, caller Les Gotcher shares his perspective on what he saw as a series of attacks on him, orchestrated by Lloyd Shaw and assisted by members of the Southern California Callers' Association.
Gotcher saw himself as the individual most responsible for the creation of modern square dance, and described himself as the King of Hash. (Hash was a name that Shaw used in a belittling fashion, but Gotcher eagerly adopted it.) He saw little need to join callers' associations, instead put his energy into his own career, which included extensive calling gigs around the US.
