Square dance caller and music producer Buddy Weaver has an original recording of the dances called at the famed "World's Largest Square Dance" in Santa Monica, CA, in 1950. He has digitzed the tapes and some audio clean-up, and the results are available on his site in five episodes.
Each episode comes with an introduction by Buddy Weaver, after which he turns the program over to the MCs of that event, Lloyd Shaw and Bob Osgood.
The event featured 38 callers and two bands, with 15,000 young dancers and more than 30,000 spectators. These live recordings are an excellent look at modern square dancing as it was becoming a major cultural phenomenon.
