Lloyd Shaw stories, #3
This is part 3 of 5, four audio clips and one video that present a History and Heritage session about Lloyd "Pappy" Shaw, recorded at the 1989 CALLERLAB convention. Participants on the panel were Bob Osgood, chair; Herb Egender, a member of Shaw's Cheyenne Mountain Dancers in 1939, and Bob Howell, Ohio dance caller.
This audio clip presents Osgood describing how he learned about square dancing and how Lloyd Shaw's approach to dancing shaped his own, that dancing was not really about completing a series of figures correctly; instead, it was a way to bring people together.
More information about Lloyd and Dorothy Shaw is contained in an exhibit in this collection.
The audio was extracted from the VHS videotape and compressed to save bandwidth; the camera was stationary in the back of the room, and the sound was recorded by the on-camera mic. Part 5 of the series is the video footage of the final 20 minutes of the session.
